Glasgow Central Station

Home / Project Overview / Glasgow Central Station

Glasgow Central has served Scotland’s largest city since it was first build in 1879. It’s architecture is typically Edwardian including a high vaulted engine shed and concourse area.

Following the physical refurbishment of the building completed in 2005, Network Rail, which runs the station, began a project to improve upon the massively old announcement system.

Babcock Rail, appointed by Network Rail to deliver the project, awarded the contract to T G Baker Sound with initial design and final certification and testing done by AMS Acoustics. In turn T G Baker Sound chose to use a selection of Penton speakers including columns, cabinets and ceiling speakers were chosen for selected zones. These zones are fed with background music from their own sources but can also be interrupted by the PA/VA system should an emergency announcement or fire alarm arise.
